Paige Barnes

Paige Barnes began her Gyrotonic training and education in 1999 under the tutelage of Master Trainer Magali Messac. She started teaching the system in 2001, and joined the Gyrotonic Seattle studio in 2006. Paige holds a B.A. in dance and geography from the University of Washington, and is an independent choreographer and performer working out of Seattle. In the fall of 2013, she will attend Bastyr University to study Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

I love teaching and watching individuals engage with a process that is unknown to them. It is like taking a friend on a new hike in a dense forest with varied terrain that leads them to the ocean…I enjoy guiding someone toward a new place in their body, observe how they interact with an unknown space, what they do once they arrive and how that new information informs the awareness of their whole body. This process teaches me. It is through teaching that I have a better understanding of this profound and poetic movement system.
